Homemade Raw Cat Food in 6 Easy Steps

Feeding your cat a homemade raw food diet offers several health benefits, like improved digestion, better dental health, and increased energy. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on my experience making raw cat food for my two Ragdolls, Teemo and Arya.

  1. Source Quality Meat: Choose fresh, high-quality meats, avoiding any that come from treated farms. This reduces exposure to harmful chemicals, supporting both your health and your cat’s.
  2. Balanced Ingredients: Follow a mix mimicking whole prey—84% muscle meat, 6% raw bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs. I use beef heart, liver, kidney, and chicken thigh.
  3. Add Supplements: Include Calcium MCHA, kelp powder, vitamin E, and psyllium husk for a balanced diet. These provide essential nutrients without the risk of bone chipping.
  4. Batch Prep for Efficiency: Preparing food in bi-weekly batches saves time and keeps meat fresh.
  5. Chop, Don’t Grind: Chopped meat supports dental health and slows eating, preventing overeating.
  6. Store Properly: Keep pre-portioned containers in the freezer and defrost as needed for easy, fresh meals.

Homemade raw cat food takes practice, but it’s a rewarding routine that keeps Teemo and Arya happy and healthy.
