So, how do I say goodbye
To someone who’s been with me for my whole damn life?
Oh, Dean Lewis, are you a tear master!
Just thinking about having to say goodbye to my favorite dog makes me want to tear up all over again. And, I bet Jaimie felt the same about Goose that day, even though she always knew it would be temporary.
He Was Family
Goose walked into Jaimie’s life unexpectedly, yet he stole her heart as if he had been there the whole time.
When she signed up as a dog sitter, never in her wildest dreams could Jaimie imagine that this black Lab would become such an integral part of her life. The initial plan was to dog-sit Goose for three consecutive Wednesdays, but things changed pretty quickly!
Goose became an unavoidable member of Jaimie’s family, which ultimately resulted in her changing the entire plan.
Instead of watching him for three weeks only, she and his owner agreed to prolong Goose’s stay in Jaimie’s home – indefinitely!
“It turned from him coming over every Wednesday to him staying with me for two to three weeks at a time,” Jaimie told The Dodo.
The rest, as they say, is history!
Goose and Jaimie soon became inseparable, sharing every single moment of their lives together. They took exciting walks to Central Park in New York City, met lots of new friends, had the sweetest cuddle sessions in their apartment, and even shared custody of a kitten.
Okay, it’s not like Goose was thrilled with the idea of having Ciabatta around, but he soon came to terms with the fact that this little kitten was his sister now.
And, the best part was – he even got a new doggo sibling – a dog named Rooster.
“Goose is fully a part of our family. He is the reason we got our own dog,” says Jaimie.
He was there for Rooster’s formative months, helping him socialize and learn all the basic doggo manners.
In two and a half years with Jaimie, Goose visited her parents’ house and her boyfriend’s parents’ house, and met all of her friends. Even though she was always in the role of a dog sitter, that didn’t affect her treatment of Goose. She treated him like her own dog!
He was, indeed, family!
Until We Meet Again, Good Boi
Unfortunately, after two and a half years together, Goose’s dad informed Jaimie that they were moving to Miami. His family got a house there, where Goose would have a whole yard and a pool just for himself.
And, the best thing is – he no longer needs to walk on a leash! Now he has so much space to walk freely, both in the yard and on the beach.
As much as Jaimie was heartbroken by the news, she was grateful to be able to spend all this time with her soul dog. She used the time she had left with Goose to love and cuddle him as much as possible, knowing how much she’d miss him.
In a very emotional farewell video she posted, Jaimie said her last goodbye to her best bud, reassuring him that from now on, he’ll have a blast in the new home!
“You’re gonna go swimming every single day, and you’re always gonna have grass,” Jaimie says in the video.
“You changed my whole life, buddy,” she adds.
However, Jaimie intends to visit Goose whenever possible. She’s regularly in touch with his family and receives all these amazing videos of him having a blast in his new home.
So, it’s not really a goodbye! It’s more of a “until next time!”
