Los was a small, scruffy with big, hopeful eyes. Today was his birthday, a day he had been looking forward to for weeks. He had heard stories from the older dogs at the shelter about birthday treats, belly rubs, and lots of love. Los couldn’t wait to experience it all for himself.
But as the sun rose on his special day, Los found himself alone, shivering in the cold. He had been abandoned by his previous owners, left to fend for himself on the streets. His heart ached with disappointment and betrayal.
Los wandered the city, his belly rumbling with hunger. He tried to find a warm place to sleep, but the night was cold and unforgiving. He curled up in a cardboard box, his tiny body trembling with fear.
As the day wore on, Los watched people walking by, their faces filled with warmth and laughter. He longed for the companionship of a human, for someone to pet him, to give him a kind word. But no one seemed to notice him.
